We've been working through a message series entitled "The Time of Your Life" and yesterday focused on kids. They are what bring so much joy and love to our lives. Jesus encourages us to be childlike in our approach to life.
So why am I sometimes so joyless and unloving? Maybe I'm trying to act too much like an adult. Maybe I'm trying too much to be in control. Maybe I'm trying to make it on my own instead of looking to my heavenly Daddy to carry me.

Wow Brett, talk about hitting the nail on the head! I feel like that too...always trying to be the adult and in control. Yet, when I let Him be in control I feel like I am able to really relax and enjoy my time more. I'm surrounded by kids most of the time, and I have the most fun when I can let go and not worry about being the "grown up". I'm sorry I missed this service...I was at the Carnegie Science Center with (who else?) the Girl Scouts!
Thanks for that wonderful reminder this morning. I let house work, and laundry, and all that other adult stuff control me too much at times. Thanks for helping me see this morning to look at what needs done more through the eyes of our 2 year old daughters eyes and the eyes of my heavenly daddy.
Brett...great post...faith like a child. Hmmmmmm...that's a very adult concept.

I'm always envious that my kids (esp. the younger ones) get such a kick out of a sunny day, or a rabbit running nearby, or a picnic, etc. They exude joy over the simplest, most mundane things. There's a certain profundity there that eludes and awes me.
The Time of "YOUR" life??? Better be careful, Brett, or Bishop Willimon and Bishop McIlwain :) just might come down on you for being too "us" centered in your preaching. A sermon on kids? That's a little too relevant to life to be something that we should preach on, according to the latest lecture at PTS. Keith, your thoughts?

I actually think it sounds like a GREAT sermon series, Brett. I'll probably steal the idea from you and not give credit in the very near future. My earlier post related to some discussions on McIlwain's blog regarding the recent lecture by Bishop Willimon at PTS. I'll fill you in at Conference. In the meantime, don't quit! We need relevant Biblical preaching today more than ever.
