The Big 3
Here is my latest attempt to figure out the "Big 3." You know, the 3 priorities I need to focus on as a pastor, and specifically of Cornerstone? What do you think?

Brett...I think you got it covered. All the things I can think of will fit into those three categories.
In my mind, your big 3 are right on the mark! Time allotment between the 3 will always be critical and never equally divided. Keeping the big 3 in check while prioritizing will always be a challenge to your leadership abilities, especially in the area of delegating. You have an entire Church as your staff; please use them (us) freely without consternation. HE will do the rest. You have done a wonderful job with HIM thusfar; Thanks soooo much!
They look good, brother, but key will be how each of those 3 are defined. They certainly intertwine. How do you differentiate each, and what holds them together?
Would "servanthood" or "service" or "missions" be under one of those 3 or would you consider it seperate?
I ask because your big 3 made me think of Campus Crusade for Christ's big 3 which are: "win, build, send". Your "preaching" is likened to "win", your "disciple" is likened to "build", and I thought "serve/mission" is likened to "send". Perhaps, "lead" is just making sure your all big 3 happen in the church and not necessarily a separte aspect.

Keith...the three are very intertwined. Perhaps my answer to Jan will shed some light.
Jan...missional living fits in discipleship. Let me try to define each of 3 categories.
I need to focus on my preaching and on our worship service because it is a prime point of contact for many people. It is one of the best avenues for the early stages of evangelism. And it is the primary way we get people to love on God. Our worship services should be all about Him.
The reason for this "next big thing" that I am hinting as is the discipleship piece. The way I am using discipling here is connecting people to each other, growing in specific areas of faith, and DOING the work of ministry. I realize that is skating outside the rink of the traditional understanding of discipleship. That is how I'm using it. I find I'm doing to much "discipling" in our worship service because it is happening as much in other ways as I would like. This "next big thing" allows me to focus worship on worship, and discipling on discipling.
The third piece is leading, by which I really mean pouring myself into the key leaders of C3. That would be our paid staff people and the key lay ministry leaders. I cannot, and never should do this all myself. The key is teamwork. The key to teamwork is a coach, and that is another big area I need to focus my efforts. I can't adequately coach everyone, but if I coach and shepherd the key leaders, then they can coach and shepherd their sub-flocks.
Does that make sense?
Oh - but what about the "you haven't visited so-n-so even though they haven't darkened the doors of the sanctuary in 15 years" catagory?
Brett, looks great. I too think that all three blend together and I think your leadership style of team-building will work great with the model. Look forward to hearing about the great things that will continue to happen at Cornerstone.

Personal Spiritual Development has got to fit in somewhere...I was reminded of the importance of relationship with God as a pastor...I'm not sure that's what you're going for, but should it fit somewhere?
