stress

How do you handle it? Carla and I, both for different reasons, have been under some stress lately. We have been talking together about how to, and not to, handle stress. We both long to just "let go and let God." But that is so much easier said than done. How do you just give it over to Him and get some sleep? How do you "cast your cares on Him" and walk by faith? Those are not rhetorical questions! Whaddya think?

Brett,
That is a good question. Sometimes I feel I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I try to put it in Gods hands. But I still worry. I'm glad you are talking about this topic.

For me (esp. since doing the Beth Moore bible study, "Believing God")... the key is faith... I mean truly believing God has taken the burden from you and that He is handling it... and as a result you are in a win-win situation.

Here's what I do:
Take a walk in nature (preferably on a wooded trail), and try to keep your mind totally empty, just focusing on the external world. Try not to think at all, just be receptive to nature and enjoy the beauty of it. I find it to be an incredibly life-giving practice.

I recently have begun cooking and baking during stress-filled times. I think it has to do with actually completing something. Its very peaceful though (or should I say dough?)

Here is my suggestion: Sign up for online bill paying. It has been cathartic for me, and enjoyable each and everytime I am online navagating on the site!

It is worth a try!

When it comes to stress, I'm an escapist. Like Jeff K suggested, I'll take a walk somewhere and just get away from everything, or I'll watch a happy movie, or sit in a coffee shop and read the paper and do the crossword for awhile. I realize the stressor is waiting for me when I'm done 'escaping,' but somehow it seems more manageable. I also journal and share it with God. This helps immensely, but I'm with ya, Brett, there's no easy answer and we all go through it at different times and in different ways.

Brett, I got that advice from my dear brother, Gregory, and I thought I would pass that on to you! It is the least I could do~

Philippians 4:6-7 - A pastor made us memorize it once. It has stuck with me and helped me through many uncertain times :)
